Ever since we decided to officially start The Boarding Lane blog I have been extremely excited to get out and start reviewing my favorite travel experiences. I couldn’t wait for my next trip to come up so I would have the opportunity to review the Terminal A Admirals Club. I had been many times before so I knew what to expect, but this was the first time I went with the intent of reviewing the club. I arrived at the airport early to give myself plenty of time before my flight. Upon entering I was greeted by 2 friendly receptionists who swiped my membership card and welcomed me. As is the case with most of the Admirals Clubs, I then went around the corner and took one of the 2 elevators up to the main club level. The elevator doors open to the main customer service desk. This is the place for any passengers who have issues or questions related to their upcoming flights. I didn’t require any help this time but in the past when I have needed assistance they have always been extremely helpful and accommodating.

The DFW Terminal A Admirals Club hours are as follows:

Daily: 4:45 a.m. – 10:15 p.m.

Upon entering the club, look up to catch all the planes hanging from the skylight. It is a nice touch that can go un-noticed. The visible windows there are part of a “secret” area of club A that hardly anyone uses anymore. It can be accessed by making a hard left turn upon entering the main club level.

The club utilizes double elevators to take everyone up to the club level. For anyone desiring more exercise just continue walking around the corner and take the stairs.

The elevator opens in the middle of the club with the option to go either left or right. To the left is the bar area with TV’s so I headed this direction to start. On the way I passed part of the main sitting area and what used to be a smoking lounge (I don’t believe it can still be used for this anymore) on my way to the bar area.

Departures boards hang throughout the club so you can easily check on your flight time and gate. I stopped to check on my flight before continuing on to the bar and luckily my flight was still on time.

I always like to grab one of the complimentary drink options after arriving to help myself settle in and relax before my flight. Why have club access if you don’t take full advantage of it, right? Anyways, the bar area had plenty of natural light and 3 flat screen TVs to watch either the news or sports, depending on the time of day. They also have food for purchase from the bar, options include sandwiches, salads, paninis, and quesadillas.

I decided to continue my tour of the club and came across this mini business center. If you need a computer to look anything up or check your emails this would suffice.

The food offerings in the club were the same as usual, a selection of cheese, vegetables, fruit, and soup. Then cookies and brownies if you are feeling a sweet tooth. The main food layout (pictured above) is in the center of the club. However, they have a few smaller options on each end of the club.

After grabbing an assortment of snacks I continued over to the more formal lounge area (the part with no tv and bar) to check out the chairs. As you can see in the picture above they sit kind of low and deep. However, I found them to be very comfortable and the environment was very conducive to working on my laptop. This would be the area to come if you want to avoid all the action and noise going on over in the bar area.

Before heading out for my flight I decided to head down to the other end of the club and see what it had to offer. Along the way I noticed an empty childrens lounge. To be honest I have never actually seen anyone using it before. But it appears to have some items that would keep your child busy if you were really desperate. But in this day and age I feel it is a bit overkill with the ease of streaming shows to portable devices. Children seem pretty content sitting in the lounge watching their favorite shows and for this reason I feel the childrens lounge could probably be renovated to better utilize the space.

Just past the childrens lounge is the quiet room. There was only one person in here sitting back in the corner. Be sure to check it out if you are in the DFW Terminal A Admirals Club as it is essentially your own private little club if nobody else makes the walk back here. Then behind this area is a mini selection of snacks and water so you would not have to walk all the way back over to the main food selection.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I really like what the DFW Terminal A Admirals Club has to offer. Obviously it is not even close to being the best club out there but for domestic flights leaving out of Terminal A it is more than adequate. They have complimentary snacks, complimentary drinks, TVs, and comfortable chairs in an inviting atmosphere. No matter how you look at it, if you can get yourself into one of the Admirals club it is significantly better than sitting at the gate. If you happen to have a layover over 4 hours, or a long flight delay, it is worth considering purchasing an admirals club day pass. The cost of a day pass is $59 and it can be used at any admirals club during your trip that day. Their desk agents can be lifesavers when it comes to flight cancellations or delays.
